As part of Day 1 of the 2025 Family Law and Care & Protection Conference, we’re offering a series of three (3) hour intensives, designed to provide in-depth learning and practical insights across key areas of practice. These sessions are open to both in-house staff and external practitioners and are tailored to suit a range of experience levels.

The Property Intensive is FULL
Each intensive includes targeted content featuring presentations, panel discussions and practical exercises delivered by subject matter experts. Streams include:

This session is designed for practitioners who are interested in building their understanding of international family law and supporting clients with cross-border issues. Topics will include:

Beginner level – ideal for those new to property matters or seeking a refresher.
This hands-on intensive is designed to guide you through the lifecycle of a LANSW property matter, from beginning to end.
Using a factual scenario and hearing from guest presenters, you’ll gain practical skills and insights in:
Managing costs and contributions in property matters
Suitable for practitioners at all levels.
This intensive is designed for legal practitioners working in the care and protection space, though allied practitioners may still find the content valuable.
The session is structured in two parts:
First Half: Early Intervention in Focus: Understanding DCJ’s Early Decision Making
This Q & A style session will delve into the early intervention space, focusing on what happens before court proceedings begin. Participants will gain insight into how the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) makes decisions, what LAFPA looks like from their perspective and how legal and allied professionals can better support clients during this critical phase.
Second Half: When to Hold ‘Em - The Case for Arguing Interim Applications
This session will unpack the strategic value of arguing interim applications, including establishment, s256A interim orders, s90A interim orders, allocation of parental responsibility (other than to the PRM), AVOs and more. It will focus on when and how to advocate effectively at the interim stage.
This intensive is designed specifically for APS staff and does not have a legal focus, though legal practitioners may still find the content valuable.
The session is structured in two parts:
First Half: Participants will join the Care & Protection Intensive for Early Intervention in Focus: Understanding DCJ’s Early Decision Making. Please refer to the above for full details of this session.
Second Half: Following lunch, participants will move to a separate room for a Yamurrah led session on Culturally Responsive Trauma Informed Practice, focusing on culturally safe and trauma aware approaches to working with children and families.
